About the
PENARTH OPERATIC AND DRAMATIC SOCIETY
PODS are a friendly amateur dramatic society based in Penarth, South Wales. We are delighted to have been entertaining the community since 1924.
Each year, we produce:
-
A Spring play in March (rehearsals Mon, Wed, Sun)
-
A Spring musical in May (rehearsals Tue, Thu, Sun)
-
A summer youth production
-
An Autumn play in October (rehearsals Mon, Wed, Sun)
-
A festive pantomime in December (rehearsals Tue, Thu, Sun)
We also like to take up other opportunities to perform, such as the One Act Play Festival, Penarth Summer Festival, Penarth Christmas Lights switch-on, and more!

The society was founded in Autumn 1924 following an advert in the Penarth Times; a small group gathered at the local library to make plans for the first show.
Their first musical outing was the comedy opera, Iolanthe by Gilbert & Sullivan in April 1925. The drama section kicked off in 1929 with A Little Bit of Fluff by Walter W Ellis.
In comparison, our first pantomime was a very late arrival, with Cinderella in 1998.

OUR HISTORY
GET INVOLVED
PODS is a community theatre group and local charity looked after by a team of volunteers. The society is overseen by our Honorary President, Mary Gardner, the PODS Committee and our Charity Trustees.
We are grateful to have talented members who bring a range of skills to the table; they act, direct, build sets, make costumes, source props, design posters, plan makeup, manage finances, make programmes, sell tickets... the list is endless.
As a community, we are keen to share these skills and can provide meaningful learning opportunities for people looking to develop skills in any part of theatre.
