Centenary Gala Concert
In September of this year, we’ll be taking you on a musical journey through a hundred years of PODS productions as part of our centenary celebrations.
In 1924, Ernest Barwell, a newly arrived reporter on the Penarth Times, declared his surprise at the fact that the town did not have its own amateur operatic company. And the effect was immediate, for three weeks later the paper announced the formation of the Penarth Operatic Society.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe was the society’s first production with a cast of 55 and a 23 piece orchestra. Since then, PODS has performed more than 70 different musicals, many of them more than once, as well as concerts, musical showcases and pantos. Our Gala Concert will be a glorious showcase of songs from many of these spectacular musicals.
Tickets will be on sale soon.
