Steel Magnolias - Robert Harling's beloved play is the hilarious and heart-warming true story that inspired the hit 1989 film starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts. 
 

Steel Magnolias follows the friendship of six women facing the highs and lows of love and life. Amongst this chaos, they always find time to gossip, unwind and set the world to rights!

Meet the Characters

​

Truvy (Amanda Matthews) is the kind, caring and resilient ‘glue’ of the group. She owns the beauty shops that serves as the setting of the play. She loves her craft, her clients and the gossip of Chinquapin Parish!

​

Annelle (Laura Day) could be mistaken for shy and insecure after a recent let-down by a shady husband. Through the friendship of her new-found friends (and new-found religious beliefs), Annelle’s confidence and humour blooms through the play, proving her loyalty, “creativity” and kind heart.

​

M'Lynn (Penni Carr) is the very capable and dependable mother of the head—strong and vivacious Shelby. It certainly runs in the family! She is the epitome of a steel magnolia.

Shelby (Chloe Welsh) is the reason the play was written! The writer, Robert Harling, wanted to write a play to capture his clever, hilarious and unrelentingly strong sister - Shelby is the beautiful result of these ingredients.

Ouiser (Emma Dennett) is a wealthy divorcee, she is acerbic but ultimately lovable. Possessed of a sharp tongue, she can be sarcastic, scathing and severe, however her words can’t completely mask the kind and caring woman who exists beneath.

Clairee (Nikki Wilson) is the former ‘First Lady’ of Chinquapin Parish. Clairee oozes confidence and life experience, which her friends (and the audience) are all ears for. Despite facing her own grief, Clairee brings nothing but joy and gossip by the barrel load!
